Horror Story One

Two amateur would-be Chimney Servicing Operators go to a local lady and offer to sweep her chimney. Firstly they are asked to sweep the chimney from the top as this is how the customer has traditionally had this service.

One of the men masks the fireplace off while the other goes up on the roof and at a shout from his partner that the fireplace is all masked off, starts to sweep the chimney from the top down.

The lady is appalled when the adjoining room is filled with soot - her light carpet, suite and furniture in the room are covered completely in soot and debris from the chimney...

Additionally the men are not insured and it costs a small fortune to have her home professionally cleaned and serviced - not to mention the inconvenience, mess and intrusion to her home...a complete disaster because the men were not trained how to check that they were sweeping the correct chimney!


Horror Story Two

Another 2 amateur sweeps are asked by their employer to go and sweep one of the Company properties that a retired lady lives in. One of the men is outside checking when the brush comes out of the chimney pot, but is so lax in his role that the other actually puts the brush out of the chimney and adds so many rods that it has come out and with the flex on the rods is curved right over and it touching the ground in the lady's garden. The men quickly take the rods off but while pulling the brush down the chimney get the brush head stuck in the flue. Not knowing how to remove the brush the men decide to set the chimney on fire to burn it out. They fill a wellington boot with petrol and newspaper and wedge it behind the chimney throat plate and set it on fire - whoosh - sure enough the brush is burned and drops like a stone into the still burning wellington boot - which explodes into the hearth and splashes petrol all over the room and the carpets and furniture are set on fire. Luckily the men are able to put out the fire but there is immeasurable damage done to the property and the poor lady is petrified...
